ExtremeXOS and Switch Engine Release Recommendations

Updated on 12 September 2025.

The following table lists recommended ExtremeXOS (EXOS) and Switch Engine releases for each hardware platform.

Maintenance Release Recommendation

The Maintenance Release recommendation is the actively supported version of the software that no longer receives new features and only includes new fixes.

Note:The latest maintenance versions are generally safe, as they build on the recommended release with extra fixes.

The recommendation reflects the following criteria:

  • No open critical issues introduced in the referenced software release.
  • Release deployed in the field for at least three months (unless urgent fixes require the latest release).
  • Internal SQA regression testing completed without encountering any new issues.

Feature Release Recommendation

The Feature Release recommendation is the newest version of the software with the latest set of features and is fully supported.

The recommendation reflects the following criteria:

  • Less real-world usage history than Maintenance Release.
  • Upgrading for fixes may require moving to the next major release, which can include additional new features.

An asterisk (*) indicates that the software release shown is the final supported release for the hardware platform.

When deploying any software release, customers should always review the Release Notes for known issues that pertain to features and technologies used in their network. Only upgrade above recommendations to fix a specific issue or add a needed feature.
